Jasmine Hall, Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos

ABOUT THE LAGOS CORPORATE ASSEMBLY

The Lagos Corporate Assembly is a public-private engagement where business-related issues such as infrastructure development, business regulations, MSME challenges, taxes, revenue, security, transportation, traffic management, and technology are presented by the private sector in a cohesive manner. These issues are discussed with the Governor, leading to directives for the State Government’s MDAs to resolve the highlighted problems. This assembly has become a staple event, held annually or bi-annually, fostering a strong relationship between the State Government and the Organized Private Sector (OPS).

The primary objectives of the Lagos Corporate Assembly include fostering a harmonious relationship between the State Government and the Private Sector and creating an agreeable business environment that promotes private sector and MSME development. This reduces business complaints related to multiple taxes, levies, infrastructure, and regulatory burdens.

Additionally, the assembly provides a platform for presenting and addressing challenges and issues related to the business environment, with directives given to the responsible MDAs for their resolution. This approach has made the assembly a vital tool for enhancing cooperation and problem-solving between the government and the business community.

Previous editions have recorded achievements such as: granting OPS water licensing concessions, including a 5-year arrears waiver and a 75% permit waiver by the state government. LSETF trained over 12,000 artisans, placed more than half in jobs, and funded around 12,000 businesses. Governor Sanwo-Olu approved a one-year moratorium on LSETF loans. Three banks set up a โ‚ฆ10 billion fund for women in business, benefiting over 6,200 women and 2,500 schools. All issues from the 7th assembly were resolved.
